Nicholas Pooran was at his very best in the Trinidad T10 Blast match against Cocrico Cavaliers on Thursday, March 3. While playing for the Leatherback Giants, he showed what he is capable of at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. Pooran, also the skipper of the Giants, scored an unbeaten 14-ball 53 with the help of as many as eight sixes.

In fact, he once smashed four sixes on the trot. The left-hander played at a strike rate of 378.57 and helped his team chase down 115 with 15 balls to spare. Pooran got the apt support from opening batter Amir Jangoo, who scored 39 runs off 16 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes.

Terrance Hinds finished off proceedings with two sixes and took the Giants home. But without Pooran’s power-hitting skills, the Giants would have strained to go over the finishing line.

Earlier, the Cavaliers scored 114 for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 10 overs. Hakeem Mitchell top-scored for them with an unbeaten 13-ball knock of 33. Navin Bidaisee and Dexter Sween also scored in the 20s. Christopher Vincent and Vishan Jaggesar picked up two wickets apiece for the Giants.

As far as Pooran is concerned, he is one of the most sought-after players in global T20 leagues around the world. Last year, Pooran also captained the West Indies on their tour of Pakistan, although his team failed to win a single game.

Recently, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) picked him to play in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The SRH and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started the bidding war to buy him after which the latter backed out. Thereafter, the Orange Army and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fought hard to get hold of Pooran.
