Pakistan Super League: Peshawar Zalmi Fantasy CheatSheet For PSL 2022

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Retentions & Draft Picks:

Peshawar Zalmi were the runners-up last season going down to Multan Sultans in the PSL 6 Final. Overall, they’ve made the playoffs each year, been to the finals four times but have won the trophy only once which they would like to double it this season. Wahab Riaz has been retained as the captain while James Foster who worked in an assistant coach role last season has been promoted to the head coach role.

Ahead of the PSL 7 draft, Peshawar Zalmi made eight retentions: Wahab Riaz, Liam Livingstone, Shoaib Malik, Haider Ali, Sherfane Rutherford, Saqib Mahmood, Hussain Talat and Tom-Kohler Cadmore. After retaining a balanced core, Zalmi went about filling the remaining slots. They first picked the explosive Afghanistan opener, Zazai from the Platinum category. Then they bought the talented legspinner, Usman Qadir from the Gold category. Salman Irshad, Arshad Iqbal, Sameen Gul, Pat Brown and Sirajuddin rounded off their pace attack. They picked Kamran Akmal from the silver category which brought out some controversies. While their batting looks quite strong, their bowling especially the pace attack barring Wahab Riaz doesn’t inspire much confidence. They were the second worst team at the death last year but they haven’t done much in the draft to address that area.

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Stud

The players who provide good value for their credits and can be banked upon for consistent returns.

‌Wahab Riaz: The left-arm seamer from Pakistan picks a wicket once every 16.7 balls in T20s. He was quite lethal with the new ball last year and him being Zalmi’s primary death bowler means he’ll be always amongst the wickets.

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Bankers

The players who provide good value for their credits and can be banked upon for consistent returns.

Liam Livingstone: He’s one of the most sought out cricketers in the T20 circuit currently. He was in unbelievable form last year amassing 1053 runs at an average of 39 striking at 151. He’s also a capable bowler who can bowl both offspin and legspin depending of the match-up.

Hazratullah Zazai: His brief stint with the Zalmi last season prompted their team management to buy him back at the highest category this year. In 5 games last season, he scored 212 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 186. While his batting style is pretty one-dimensional, still expect him to deliver.

Shoaib Malik: While Malik’s stock might’ve fallen in the international arena but he has always been a steady run-scorer at the PSL level. Last season was his best with the bat in PSL history scoring 354 runs from 13 games.

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Boom or Bust

A player who could perform one of two ways in a season: really well or really poorly.

Haider Ali: One of the most talented recent cricketers from Pakistan, he’s a high intent batter capable of destroying a bowling attack singlehandedly on his day but consistency has never been his ally. While he did bat with a different approach in the recent WI vs Pak T20Is, its still early days.

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Sleeper

The players who provide decent enough value but is undervalued or is just not a well-known player.

Usman Qadir: He spent the last couple of seasons under the shadows of two legendary legspinners Tahir and Afridi learning the trades of the game. Now it’s time to put those learnings to practice as he’s going to enjoy his first full season in the playing eleven.

Saqib Mahmood: While he’s still raw as evident by the mauling he got by Akeal Hosein in the recent WI vs Eng T20I, he’s a genuine wicket-taker with the ball. In his short T20 career so far he has a bowling strike rate of 13.7.

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Risky Business

The players who carry an element of risk with them which may be due to bad form, injury, lack of game time, etc……

Kamran Akmal: He isn’t the consistent run-getter who he once used to be. His returns in the domestic tournaments recently aren’t convincing and he’s recovering from COVID currently.

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Trap

A player who looks like a good buy, but won’t score enough points to be of much use.

Hussain Talat: He might seem like a familiar name but has been awful with the bat for awhile now.

Peshawar Zalmi (PSL 7) – Flex

The players whose credit values are less but still provide some decent value and so help balance out the lineup.

Sirajuddin: He’s tall, quick and is most likely the first choice for the Emerging Player category.
