For what is considered impossible for many, the Mumbai Indians executed with ease. They defeated the formidable Chennai Super Kings thrice in this IPL season and MI will look towards Malinga to continue the same.

No bowler in Indian Premier League history can boast to have as many wickets as Lasith Malinga does against Chennai Super Kings. He has taken 36 wickets in 22 matches against CSK. While it can be said that Malinga is probably in the winter of his illustrious career, no one can doubt Malinga's ability to have a strong say in the Final of IPL 2019 against the defending champions on Sunday.

In their first encounter of the season, it was Malinga along with Jason Behrendorff after all, who came together to hand over Chennai their first defeat of the season, at the Wankhede stadium. Chennai lost 3 quick wickets in the Powerplay and never recovered while trying to chase a target of 171. Therein lies a clue for Mumbai to down the Super Kings.

Out of five matches that CSK have lost this season, four have come when they have had a very bad start in the Powerplay. Similarly, against Royal Challengers Bangalore, CSK lost 4 wickets in the Powerplay and went on to lose the match. Lasith Malinga will partner with Jasprit Bumrah to open the bowling attack for Mumbai and shake up CSK's top order nice and early. In case that doesn't happen and CSK  get off to a top start, yet again the responsibility will be in the hands of Lasith Malinga to stop the in-form MS Dhoni. Overall in domestic T20s, Malinga has taken Dhoni's wicket on three occasions. He has the same number of scalps against Raina and Faf Du Plessis too. All three of them are pivotal to Chennai's batting line up.

Malinga went wicketless in the first Qualifier against CSK on Tuesday. But bagged four wickets in Chennai on April 26. Malinga was not in the playing XI for MI in their away encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. As play kicks off at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, it will be interesting to see how Malinga performs against his favourite opposition.
