Mohammad Amir bowled a top-class yorker past Avishka Fernando in LPL 2021-22 before giving him an ugly send-off.
Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammad Amir remains one of the most special talents to have been lost to his country via on and off-field controversies.
Part of the tainted trio caught for spot-fixing in the 2010 Lord’s Test, Amir did make an impressive return to the field after a five-year ban in 2015-16.
But soon the effects of the extended break started reflecting on his bowling and a contentious spat with the coaching staff led by Misbah Ul Haq and the PCB regime led to him announcing a premature international retirement in mid-2021.
The left-arm pacer, however, remains active in leagues around the world. One of the leagues Mohammad Amir has been part of is Sri Lanka’s Lanka Premier League (LPL), which was launched in 2020-21 winter.
The incident dates back to December 2021 in the following edition of the LPL in Sri Lanka. Bowling to Jaffna Kings opener Avishka Fernando at the start of the innings, Mohammad Amir pitched one in the radar of the attacking right-hander, who flicked the delivery for a terrific six through the on-side. A shot that any fast-bowler worth his salt wouldn’t take lightly.

Angry over Fernando’s six, Amir responded with a top-class yorker that hit the base of the right-hander’s off-stump from the over-the-wicket angle for the left-arm pacer.
It was as brutal a delivery and response that one would’ve anticipated after the six off the first ball from the Pakistan speedster playing for Galle Gladiators. The moment Amir had his revenge, he gave Fernando a lengthy send-off, including abuses on his way back to the shed.

The delivery from Mohammad Amir zipped past the bat of Fernando, who was again trying to nudge the ball across the on-side and ended up paying for the false stroke with his wicket.
Amir played six matches for Gladiators in the last edition of the LPL, taking 6 scalps with a decent economy rate of 7.79 despite bowling the tough overs at the start and the death.
