Oman and Hong Kong play their second game of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 league stage with either side looking to gain valuable points in Abu Dhabi. While Hong Kong wasn’t able to get past the mighty Irish, Oman pulled off a solid win against UAE to kickstart their campaign. Heading into the game, Oman will be considered the hot favourites with the Gulf nation winning their last five games on the trot. Although Kinchit Shah did put in a decent fight, there is a lot of room for improvement for Hong Kong heading into this game. The last time these teams faced off against one another Oman decimated them by six wickets although the scenario on Sunday is bound to be different.

Match Details

Hong Kong vs Oman, Match 13
October 20th 2019, 3:40 PM IST
Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Pitch Report

The pitches in the UAE have tended to slow down as the game progresses with spin playing a major role. Teams should prefer batting first and setting a target in Abu Dhabi. Although there some swing on offer with the new ball, batting is best in the powerplay overs itself with the field restrictions playing into the hands of the batsmen.

Weather Report

The temperature is expected to be on the higher side although the cloud cover could have a say in the proceedings. Teams would prefer batting first and sending the opposition into the field under the hot sun although the humid conditions could go against it

Injuries: No injuries are reported from either side

Probable Playing XI

Hong Kong:

Hong Kong could ring in a few changes with their bowlers proving to be ineffective against Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie. Their openers, Nizakat Khan and Aizaz Khan didn’t do well against Ireland but will be crucial to their fortunes along with Kinchit Shah, who topscored with 79. As is the case with most teams in the tournament, Hong Kong has good batting depth with Scott McKenchie batting at number seven for them. Their bowling unit depends heavily on their new bowler, Kyle Christie with the spin duo of Ehsan Khan and Kinchit Shah. Shahid Wasif could make way for Mohd Ghazanfar, who strengthens the spin department with his leg spin.

Nizakat Khan, Aizaz Khan, Kinchit Shah, Waqas Barkat, Haroon Arshad, Simandeep Singh, Scott McKenchie, Ehsan Khan, Mohd Ghazanfar, Kyle Christie, Nasrullah Rana

Oman:

On the other hand, Oman shouldn’t be making any changes after a good performance against UAE. Their opening pair of Khawar Ali and Jatinder Singh is an explosive one with the likes of Zeeshan Maqsood and Aqib Ilyas following suit. Like their opponents, Oman also bats deep with Khurram Nawaz and Mohammad Nadeem capable of scoring at a very good strike rate. Their bowling unit depends on the spin duo of Aamir Kaleem and Khawar Ali with the option of a third spinner in Maqsood also available. Left arm pacer, Bilal Khan is one to watch out for with his battle with the Hong Kong openers being key to the outcome of the game.

Khawar Ali, Jatinder Singh, Aqib Ilyas, Zeeshan Maqsood, Aamir Kaleem, Mohammad Nadeem, Khurram Nawaz, Suraj Kumar, Sandeep Goud, Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Butt

Top Picks:

Although Khawar Ali got out cheaply against UAE, he is Oman’s best batsmen and is also capable of picking wickets with his leg spin. Along with him, the likes of Aamir Kaleem and Aizaz Khan are also picked. Kinchit Shah, who scored a brisk fifty against Ireland, is also picked due to his form while Aqib Ilyas and Nizakat Khan are also expected to score some runs. Only one keeper in Scott McKenchie is picked with his counterpart, Suraj Kumar batting deep down the order. In the bowling department, Bilal Khan is a must have with his ability to swing the new ball being top-notch. The selections of Fayyaz Butt and Kyle Christie should round the team for this game
