It’s the big semi-final number 2 of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 and it’s South Africa who meets England at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. It’s a rematch of the World Cup 2017 semi-final where South Africa lost in a nail-biting finish.
South Africa finished at the 2nd position in the points table after winning 5 games and all of those were very close ones. However, they held their nerve and there were players who kept putting their hand up for South Africa in clutch moments to seal the match for their team.
Laura Wolvaardt has been on fire with a string of 50s in this tournament, Marizanne Kapp has been exceptional with her all-round skills, Ayabonga Khaka and Shabnim Ismail have been the enforcers with their disciplined bowling, and it was Mignon du Preez who finished off the last league game for South Africa which ensured that India did not make it through.
As for England, they started off in a disastrous fashion with several close losses. But, they held together through thick and thin to make a strong comeback and seal the 3rd position on the points table. Their pacers have struggled, but seem to be finding their rhythm again.
