Captain of India’s impressive U-19 batch that achieved the World Cup glory in the Caribbean this year, Yash Dhull, has entered the senior domestic arena with a bang. The young gun has made an excellent initiation in first-class cricket for Delhi, scoring two hundreds on debut in the Ranji Trophy versus Tamil Nadu.
In a first-round Group H fixture played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Dhull struck a brilliant 113 off 150 deliveries in the first innings and backed that up with another superlative hundred to show that he can stamp his authority at the higher level too.
The 19-year-old had scored 229 runs from his four innings in India’s title-winning campaign at the U-19 World Cup in West Indies and has followed up that with twin centuries on first-class debut, entering a rare list of cricketers to have bagged this feat.

Yash Dhull has made a great feast of his first-class debut for Delhi.
Yash Dhull only third batter to score twin centuries on Ranji debut
With his magnificent debut for Delhi, Yash Dhull has joined the rarest of rare list of batters who have recorded a century in each innings of their maiden Ranji Trophy outing.
Dhull now stands as only third batter behind Nari Contractor and Virag Awate to have recorded two centuries on Ranji debut.
While Contractor achieved the feat in the 1952-53 season for Gujarat, Awate etched his name in the record books during the 2012-13 winter for Maharashtra.
Delhi's Yash Dhull has added another feather to his cap! He has now become the only third batsman to make a century in each innings (113 & 100*) on #RanjiTrophy debut after Nari Contractor (152 & 102*) for Gujarat in 1952/53 & Virag Awate (126 & 112) for Maharashtra in 2012/13.

Always a big jump from junior cricket to the senior domestic game, till as deep as 2007, only three batters had recorded a century each on their first-class debut. The first player to make two tons on first-class debut was former Australian opener Arthur Morris, who struck 148 and 111 for New South Wales against Queensland in the 1940-41 season.
Contractor’s domination over Gujarat in Baroda 12 years later put him up at second in this list. He was followed by Amer Malik in the 1979-80 first-class season, where playing for Lahore A against Railways, he made scores of 132 not out and 110.
There have been quite a few other players to have recorded this feat across the world since and the latest is India and Delhi’s young promising right-hander Yash Dhull.
Dhull, who made a name for himself via his stellar performances in the Caribbean, is slowly but surely growing in stature among the fans as they lauded him for his great Ranji Trophy debut and wished him well for the future.
