How rare is Yash Dhull’s twin tons on First-class debut?

Dhull now stands as only third batter behind Nari Contractor and Virag Awate to have recorded two centuries on Ranji debut.

While Contractor achieved the feat in the 1952-53 season for Gujarat, Awate etched his name in the record books during the 2012-13 winter for Maharashtra.

There have been only six other Delhi players who have recorded twin centuries in the Ranji Trophy, famous cricket statistician Mohandas Menon reaffirmed on Twitter.

Always a big jump from junior cricket to the senior domestic game, till as deep as 2007, only three batters had recorded a century each on their first-class debut. The first player to make two tons on first-class debut was former Australian opener Arthur Morris, who struck 148 and 111 for New South Wales against Queensland in the 1940-41 season.

Contractor’s domination over Gujarat in Baroda 12 years later put him up at second in this list. He was followed by Amer Malik in the 1979-80 first-class season, where playing for Lahore A against Railways, he made scores of 132 not out and 110.

There have been quite a few other players to have recorded this feat across the world since and the latest is India and Delhi’s young promising right-hander Yash Dhull.

Dhull, who made a name for himself via his stellar performances in the Caribbean, is slowly but surely growing in stature among the fans as they lauded him for his great Ranji Trophy debut and wished him well for the future.

Dhull will also be seen playing the IPL for Delhi Capitals this year after he was picked by the franchise for a sum of INR 50 Lakhs at the tournament’s mega auction in Bangalore.
