IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Squad with all new signings from Mega Auction

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be one of the ten franchises seen in the thick of action during the much-awaited IPL 2022 mega auction.
CSK will be eyeing to reconstruct their squad for the upcoming season and the new three-year cycle in the two-day event to be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13.
A team that values substance over style and experience over youth, CSK have tended to approach the auctions with minimal fuss and a risk-free attitude that allows them to build strong playing contingents.
Their record is testament to how they’ve always kept their noses ahead in the tournament history. Either side of their two-year absence in 2016 and 2017 and a disastrous first-ever league stage exit in 2020, CSK have won four IPL trophies and reached the playoffs each and every time.
The last year’s campaign being a fine example of their resilience, the ‘Daddy’s Army’ made the naysayers eat their words and emerged triumphant despite playing every match at neutral venues in India and UAE. Can the MS Dhoni-led side go all the way and defend their crown in IPL 2022?

CSK Purse for IPL 2022 Auction
With CSK’s four retentions costing them INR 42 crores, they have a remaining purse of INR 48 crores to take into the IPL 2022 mega auction. The idea of retaining their core group of players, with options to cover up bases, has left CSK with a joint second-least purse among the other teams. While their remaining purse is equal to arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI), only Delhi Capitals (DC) with INR 47.5 crores have less money available to spend on reconstructing their squads.

Who will be the Captain of CSK in IPL 2022?
There were speculations that the last year’s edition of the IPL would be a farewell year for MS Dhoni in CSK colours. But the great wicketkeeper-batter will continue to lead CSK for at least one more edition of the IPL. As his team approaches a new era, Dhoni will be laying a strong base for the imminent transition phase.
Over the last two seasons – where Dhoni has made only 314 runs from 30 matches with a strike-rate of 112.54 – CSK have shown they are becoming independent of their skipper’s batting contributions. But Dhoni remains his team’s strongest available captaincy candidate at this stage.
