As usual, most eyes will be glued to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) table during the two-day IPL 2022 mega auction. RCB are expected to be among the busiest of the ten franchises as they look to rebuild their squad for next season as well as the coming cycle of three years.
Over the years, RCB have enjoyed probably the biggest fanfare in India and abroad but their results on the field have left the team’s passionate supporters disappointed. They are one of the eight initial franchises yet to clinch an IPL trophy, with the runners-up position in 2011 and 2016 seasons being their best finish.
That, however, would be looking past a sense of revival or ascent that even the RCB have been on over the last two editions of the IPL. RCB broke their playoffs jinx in the 2020 edition and repeated the feat in 2021 as well. In both tournaments, the team showcased greater role clarity and consistency and successfully made it past the league stage.
Their biggest challenge, thus, will be to pile on a squad that takes them one step further and break the 14-year-long drought of an IPL trophy.

With Virat Kohli putting an end to his eight-year-long stint as captain, the decision also brought curtains on an era for RCB as they embark upon the next chapter in their journey.
The immensely popular franchise now enters the auction with a headache on identifying Kohli’s rightful successor, who could prove to be the face of the team and take them forward.
There have been suggestions from certain corners that Kohli should reconsider his move and get back to the helm of affairs.
But with the great batter highly unlikely to revert his move, RCB are expected to go big after the likes of Shreyas Iyer, David Warner, Pat Cummins and R Ashwin among the captaincy candidates.
But from the team’s finalised squad, Faf Du Plessis is emerging as the likely candidate to replace Kohli at the helm.
