Why is Kuldeep Yadav still with team India despite BCCI revealing ‘groin injury’ treatment kept him out of Australia tour

Kuldeep Yadav is still with the side during the ongoing New Zealand Test series and was seen carrying drinks and other stuff in the third match.

Despite performing well in the first Test in Bengaluru against New Zealand, Kuldeep Yadav was dropped from the second Test and didn’t feature in the third one either. He took three wickets in a losing cause in the first match and should have continued in the coming ones.

He is a genuine wicket-taker, capable of snaring wickets even on non-helpful tracks, a feature that made India try him in the longest format. Still, he was not included and was absent from the squad for the Australia tour, starting later this month.

However, the BCCI clarified his exclusion from the series Down Under, revealing Kuldeep was referred to the BCCI Centre of Excellence to heal a chronic left groin issue. He is still with the side during the ongoing New Zealand Test series and was seen carrying drinks and other stuff in the third match.

Hence, there are questions about why he is still with the team and not getting treated for his injury. As the official statement reads, it is because he will go to the BCCI Centre of Excellence once the New Zealand series ends.

“Kuldeep Yadav was unavailable for selection for the tour of Australia since he has been referred to the BCCI Centre of Excellence after the end of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand for long term resolution of his chronic left groin issue.” read the official release.

It’s not sure whether he is fit to play, and if he is, why he was replaced in the second game. Yes, Sundar has done well, but Kuldeep hasn’t done anything wrong to get dropped.

And if he is not fit enough to play, why is he travelling with the side unnecessarily, especially after Sundar’s inclusion in the squad? He should be at the required faculty to get completely fit again in this period.

Meanwhile, his exclusion from the Australia tour seems more than about injury. Maybe selectors wanted to include Washington Sundar in the squad, so they had to find a reason to sideline Kuldeep.

Kuldeep’s groin injury is minor possibly and not significant enough to rule him out of the five-match Test series in Australia. But since there was no place for him, it was an opportunity to allow Kuldeep to heal his injured groin.
