He picked up a total of three wickets on Day 1.
The reigning Ranji Trophy champions, Vidarbha and the Rest of India, have locked horns in the Irani Cup 2025. The five-day match has kick-started in Nagpur, with the Ranji Trophy champions opting to bat first after winning the toss. Left-arm off-spinner Manav Suthar made an impact in the very first over that he bowled, sending Dhruv Shorey and Danish Malewar packing.
Both deliveries were perfectly angled into the right-handers to make them play at the ball. But the delivery spun enough to create an impact.

In the recent unofficial Test against Australia A, he was not picked in the XI for the first Test, while Harsh Dubey played ahead of him. However, when he was picked in the second unofficial Test, he proved his mettle. Suthar bagged a five-wicket haul on the first day of the match, and also got to 100 wickets in First-Class cricket.
Both his wickets against Vidarbha were of supreme quality. The first one to Dhruv Shorey was angled in beautifully with some drift. The former Delhi batter expected the delivery to come in to him and played for the straighter angle. But the ball turned just that little bit, to crash into the off stump. It was one of those deliveries that are a dream for a left-arm spinner.
The second wicket came in the same over. A similar delivery, which was a bit fuller in length, enticed Malewar to go for the drive. Somehow, the batter was caught in two minds and ended up playing a half-hearted shot. The ball took the outside edge of the bat to land in the gloves of the wicketkeeper, Ishan Kishan. Vidarbha were reduced from 80/1 to 80/3 in a span of just four deliveries.
Post the two wickets which came in quick succession, Atharva Taide and Yash Rathod struck a brilliant partnership of over 140 runs, which instilled confidence for Vidarbha.
At Stumps, Taide is unbeaten at 118 with Yash Thakur at four runs. Suthar earlier scalped Rathod’s wicket at 91 runs. Vidarbha have put up 280/5 on the board after 84 overs.

The bowling all-rounder represents Rajasthan in the domestic setup and has showcased a good performance over the years. It might not be a surprise to see Suthar developing into the Ravindra Jadeja role for India in Tests. Though the likes of Axar Patel will always be the first choices in the absence of Jadeja, Suthar has all the ingredients to transform into a great all-rounder.
Suthar’s numbers speak class. In just 24 First-Class appearances, he has bagged 103 wickets at an economy of 2.98. Additionally, he also holds seven four-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket hauls in his career. The left-arm off-spinner will have a chance to add another five-wicket haul to his already existing five.
Having gone through a lot about his bowling, it is important to note that Suthar is no mug with the bat. He has scored 739 runs with five half-centuries to his name. Suthar holds the highest score of an unbeaten 96, which proves his potential with the bat. Over the coming years, the 23-year-old can transform into one of the most reliable all-rounders in India.
