3 Franchises that could Pick James Anderson at the IPL 2025 Auction

Anderson has never played in a T20 franchise league and his last T20 match was back in 2014

The IPL 2025 mega auction will take place on November 24 and 25, and many big players have registered, including James Anderson. This is his first time entering the mega auction, with a base price of 1.25 Crore. Even though Anderson is 42 and has retired from international cricket, his experience as a fast bowler could make him an attractive option for franchises.

Although Anderson has never played in a T20 franchise league, and his last T20 match was back in 2014, his decision to enter the auction suggests he may be planning a return to the format. He could also take on a role as a mentor, sharing his experience and helping young players, which could be beneficial for teams in the long run.

Given his experience, here are three franchises that might consider bidding for James Anderson in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have long had a strong connection with English cricketers, with players like Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Joe Root all having been part of the franchise. With Trent Boult, their specialist new-ball bowler, being released, James Anderson could step in and take on that role.

Adding an English legend like James Anderson would likely be on their radar, especially with Jos Buttler not being retained ahead of the mega auction. Anderson’s vast experience could be valuable for the franchise as they look to fill the gap left by Boult.

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings are known for supporting experienced players, regardless of their age, and have a history of getting the best performances from older, retired players. Keeping with this tradition, they may consider bidding for James Anderson in the upcoming mega auction. His experience in Indian conditions could be very valuable for the team.

Moreover, Anderson could serve as a great mentor, alongside MS Dhoni, for the younger players in the CSK squad, especially with Dwayne Bravo no longer part of the team. Therefore, it’s likely that CSK will show interest in the English legend.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR could also consider bidding for James Anderson in the auction, as they have a history of working with experienced players like Pravin Tambe in the past. With Mitchell Starc being released before the auction, Anderson could be a cost-effective option to take on the role of opening bowler with the new ball.

Additionally, young bowlers like Harshit Rana could benefit from Anderson’s guidance. With Dwayne Bravo joining the management as the mentor, both Anderson and Bravo could provide valuable support to the youngsters in the squad.
