3 overseas players in a tussle to be CSK’s RTM card at the IPL 2025 auction

Not only in the Indian department, but CSK five-time champions also had some world-class talent in the overseas section.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained as many as five players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Four of them are capped and one is uncapped in MS Dhoni, their former captain.

Hence, during the auction, they will have one Right To Match (RTM) available for any capped or uncapped player. CSK have several quality players they had to release on the retention deadline and would want to get at least one back by using RTM.

Not only in the Indian department, but the five-time champions also had some world-class talent in the overseas section. So, CSK must be prudent enough to use their RTM on the best possible option and their need.

Three main overseas players will press a case to be CSK’s RTM card during the IPL 2025 auction.

Devon Conway

Devon Conway was among the finest batters of CSK in the previous cycle and formed a lethal opening partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite not playing last season, he was CSK’s third-highest run-scorer, with 924 runs at an average of 48.63 and a strike rate of 141.28, including nine fifties, in 22 innings.

He is a solid player of spin bowling, which worked well in Chennai tracks, and suits the playing style of CSK. He can bat at different gears, which allows Gaikwad to take his team and explode while also providing a different dimension to the batting unit since he is a left-handed batter.

Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra is a terrific talent adept against pace and spin and has been improving. Like Conway, he also brings his LHB dimension to the batting unit and will be a long-term investment for the Super Kings.

Rachin has a flair and can be flexible with his batting position, even though his best value comes at the top. Given he is a solid spin player, CSK can use him as an RHB-splitter in the middle order and counter slow bowlers in middle overs, especially at home.

Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana was an ideal spinner for conditions in Chepauk, for he was suited for conditions at home. He has a range of variations to remain unpredictable throughout the spell, and if the surface is helpful, Theekshana can wreak havoc.

He is equally capable against LHBs and RHBs and has vast experience playing for different teams across T20 leagues. His price might not inflate as high as Conway or Rachin, so if the budget allows, CSK should opt to use RTM on him during the auction.
