RCB retained only three players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were among the most consistent teams in the previous cycle, qualifying for playoffs twice in three attempts. Despite having a quality squad, RCB have retained only three players in a strategic move.
It will allow them the flexibility to use the Right To Match (RTM) on different players according to their needs. RCB will have as many as three RTMs during the auction.
We look at three overseas players RCB could eye to use their RTM during the IPL 2025 auction.
Despite exceptional performances in the previous cycle, RCB decided to leave out Faf du Plessis. The main reason behind his omission was his age, for Faf is 40 and might not be a long-term investment for the franchise.
However, he has shown no signs of regression and is still fit and firing, so he can come into the mix again. Given he will also solve their captaincy issue, RCB can look to use RTM on Faf during the auction.

Will Jacks was among the finest performers of RCB last season. He can contribute with both bat and ball and is an attacking batter who handles pace and spin well.
Further, he will be a long-term investment for the franchise and can serve them for years, so RCB can use RTM on him. A lot will depend on how his price goes and what RCB require by the time he comes in the auction.
Glenn Maxwell’s best came with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but RCB were tempted to release him. He had a quiet IPL 2024, which must have played a role in his exclusion.
However, he is still a match-winner and contributes with both bat and ball. Hence, if his price remains reasonable, RCB can opt to use RTM on him, given he can easily go through another cycle.
