PBKS were also on the losing side of several bids during the auction and had to let them go.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) went into the IPL 2025 auction with the biggest purse of INR 110.50 crores and went for most players. They spent wholeheartedly on several players and formed a decent squad.
However, they were also on the losing side of several bids during the auction and had to let them go. A few among them were quality players who could have made a massive difference but ended up in a different franchise.
We look at three players PBKS bid for unsuccessfully in the IPL 2025 auction.
Punjab Kings were clear with their strategy and went hard after Devon Conway during the IPL 2025 auction. They were involved in a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but CSK eventually got him for INR 6.25 crores.
They missed out on having a solid opener who is adept vs spin and can bat at different gears. However, CSK got him back, and PBKS had to back out.

Will Jacks was another quality player on PBKS’ radar but couldn’t get him due to his high price. The bidding battle started between Mumbai Indians (MI) and PBKS, where the former started the proceedings and went till INR 5.25 crores.
Later, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) decided not to use their RTM, and MI got him at a reasonable price. Maybe PBKS could have pushed harder to get him, given their big budget, but missed out on another quality player.
As many as four teams – Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals (DC), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – wanted Ishan Kishan during the IPL 2025 auction. PBKS were in the race till INR 11 crores bid and looked certain to buy Kishan.
However, as SRH raised their paddle for the next round at INR 11.25 crores, Punjab Kings again pulled out and decided not to continue. They would have got a solid Indian wicketkeeper batter but again failed to grab a quality player, this time due to an exorbitant price.
