The three retained players offer a mix of experience, batting strength, and bowling diversity, which RCB hopes to strengthen further during the IPL 2025 auction.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), still in search for their first IPL title, have made some interesting retention choices for the 2025 season. They’ve kept a combination of experienced players and promising young Indian talent to create a solid base for the upcoming campaign.

RCB have retained just three players and released several others, which has surprised many.

How many RTMs does Royal Challengers Bengaluru have?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have opted to retain just three players before the auction. According to the retention rules, teams can keep up to six players, with one of them required to be uncapped.

With Yash Dayal already retained as an uncapped player, RCB now has the option to use the Right to Match (RTM) for two capped players and one uncapped player during the IPL 2025 auction, or alternatively, they can use all three RTMs on capped players.

Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj, who has been with RCB since 2018, was also part of the list of players released ahead of the mega auction. In IPL 2024, Siraj took 15 wickets in 14 matches but had a high economy rate of 9.19.

Known for his wicket-taking ability with the new ball, his recent improvements in death bowling make him a valuable asset. RCB may look to use their RTM option to bring him back.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell had a challenging IPL 2024 season, managing just 52 runs in 10 matches. Despite this, Maxwell remains a top player in T20 cricket globally, known for his match-changing power-hitting and useful off-spin bowling.

His all-round abilities could still be an asset for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who may consider using the RTM to bring him back.

Will Jacks

Will Jacks, another key player for RCB in the 2024 season, made a significant impact after replacing Maxwell in the playing XI. The 25-year-old England all-rounder scored 230 runs at an impressive strike rate of 175.57 in 8 matches, including a remarkable 41-ball century against Gujarat Titans.

Jacks’ ability to dominate both pacers and spinners, along with his handy spin bowling, could encourage RCB to use their RTM to retain him.
