Tim Robinson scored a century against Australia in the first T20I, making headlines with a stunning innings. The 23-year-old smashed 106 runs from 66 balls and lifted New Zealand from a shaky start of 6 for 3 to a total of 181 in their 20 overs.
Although Australia went on to win the match, Tim’s maiden international hundred was a major personal milestone and highlighted his ability to perform under pressure. In his T20I career so far, he has scored 384 runs in 13 matches at an average of 38.40 and a strike rate of 137.63, with two fifties to his name in addition to this century.
His brilliant knock against a quality Australian attack has shown that he is a player for the future, and Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises could have their eyes on him in the 2026 auction. Let’s look at the three teams that could look to target him in the auction.
Chennai Super Kings could be one of the teams interested in Tim Robinson at the auction. Tim has shown he can bat anywhere in the top order, whether as an opener or at No.3 for New Zealand, which makes him a strong option for the team.
Devon Conway struggled in IPL 2025, scoring only 156 runs in six matches, so CSK might release him before the auction. Tim Robinson, on the other hand, is a powerful hitter who can clear the boundary with ease. He looks like the kind of batter CSK needs and could solve the top-order issues they faced last season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad might also go after Tim Robinson. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have been the best opening pair in the IPL, but the No.3 spot was an issue with Ishan Kishan struggling last season. Tim Robinson could be the player to strengthen that position and add more depth to their batting.
SRH also don’t have a proper backup for Travis Head, and in the middle order, Heinrich Klaasen is their only overseas batter. This makes it important for them to bring in another overseas option, and Tim could be a good fit for the aggressive style SRH like to play in the IPL.
Tim Robinson could solve Delhi Capitals’ problems if they target him in the upcoming auction. DC struggled with their overseas top-order last season, as Jake Fraser-McGurk scored only 55 runs in six matches and Faf du Plessis managed 202 runs in nine matches. Their top order was a big reason why, after a strong start, DC slipped in the second half and missed the playoffs.
Tim could be the solution. He can bat anywhere in the top four, and with the small boundaries at Arun Jaitley Stadium, he is the kind of player who can give a fast, powerful start in the powerplay.
