In the previous cycle, Glenn Maxwell was integral to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), playing a crucial role in the middle order. However, his waning expertise coupled with a mediocre IPL 2024 compelled RCB to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
However, Maxwell is still a solid player who is terrific against spin and can break the game in the middle overs. He is also decent against non-short-length deliveries and can bowl useful off-spin.
Hence, several teams will target him in the upcoming auction, and his price will be high. We look at three teams who might be interested in getting Glenn Maxwell.
Delhi Capitals (DC) have Axar Patel as a spin-hitter who can be flexible with his batting position and promoted up in the order. However, according to the requirement, they would need an RHB to bat at No.3 or 4.
Glenn Maxwell is an ideal player for that role and did it brilliantly for RCB in the last cycle. Since DC have Abishek Porel, who is solid vs pace, and Tristan Stubbs, who is equally capable against pace and spin, Maxwell’s weakness against hard lengths will be shielded.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) will need at least two spin hitters in the middle order to partner Shashank Singh. Glenn Maxwell can be one of them, given he is also decent on fuller-length deliveries against pacers.
He will enjoy playing in Mullanpur, where the decks are mostly flat after some initial movement for speedsters. Given that PBKS have Ricky Ponting at the helm, he will try getting Maxwell again.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana, their spin-hitters at No.3 and 4. Hence, they will require a couple of spin players, with one should be an RHB.
Glenn Maxwell can replicate the role of Iyer, for he is equally capable and has more attacking gears than Iyer for T20s. KKR already have quality spinners, and Maxwell’s addition will give more variety and options to the spin attack.
