3 Teams That Will Target Kagiso Rabada in the IPL 2025 Auction

The Proteas was the Purple Cap winner in IPL 2020 with an astonishing tally of 30 wickets.

Talismanic Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada is one of the most lethal bowlers in the business and is expected to be on the radar of multiple teams in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.

The last franchise Rabada played for was Punjab Kings (PBKS) after being picked by the Preity Zinta co-owned team in the previous mega-auction in 2022. While he was a crucial cog in the PBKS bowling attack, he unfortunately had to cut short his last season (IPL 2024) and had to return home due to a soft tissue infection in his lower limb.

Nevertheless, Rabada has given a testament to his sheer wicket-taking prowess over the years, the highlight of which came in the IPL 2020 season while he was plying his trade with the Delhi Capitals where the South African finished as the league’s top wicket-taker with an astonishing tally of 30 wickets.

Given his credentials, Rabada will definitely be a sought-after name in the auction in Jeddah. While Punjab Kings can still exercise their RTM card to re-acquire Rabada, let’s take a look at three other teams who could be going all out to secure the services of the tall 29-year-old seamer.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

If LSG aims to secure a world-class overseas fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada stands out as an excellent choice. Rabada has been one of the most reliable pacers in the league, claiming 117 wickets in just 80 games. His Purple Cap victory in IPL 2020 and an impressive average of 21.97 highlight his consistency and effectiveness.

His experience and skill could not only strengthen their bowling lineup but also provide much-needed stability to a young franchise still carving its path in the IPL. With ample funds remaining after retentions, LSG might make a significant move by investing in him.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

DC and Kagiso Rabada share a rich and impactful history as the South African fast bowler made his IPL debut with the franchise in 2017 and remained a key player until 2021.

During his tenure with the Delhi-based team, Rabada was instrumental in their success over three seasons. DC reached the playoffs in 2019 and 2021 and finished as runners-up in 2020, with Rabada consistently delivering standout performances in each campaign.

Rabada’s past performances with DC underline his ability to excel under the high-pressure conditions of the IPL. He has also proven his skills at their home ground – Arun Jaitley Stadium, taking 11 wickets in eight matches at the venue. Re-signing Rabada would thus bring invaluable experience to the squad, providing a reliable match-winner capable of turning games in their favour.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Royal Challengers Bangalore has often faced criticism for its bowling lineup, which tends to be eclipsed by its star-studded batting order. With Virat Kohli retained and a substantial budget of ₹83 crore at their disposal, the franchise aims to strengthen its bowling attack.

Kagiso Rabada’s knack for taking key wickets and delivering at high speeds aligns perfectly with RCB’s strategy. Former player AB de Villiers has highlighted the importance of a solid bowling unit, suggesting that bringing in Rabada could elevate RCB to serious title contention.
