If we look at Shaw's U-19 batchmates from 2018, several players are either already settled in an IPL franchise or got a gig this season.
One of the most surprising parts of the IPL 2025 auction was Prithvi Shaw getting unsold. He kept his base price of INR 75 Lakhs for this auction but found no buyers despite being so explosive at one stage.
If we look at his U-19 batchmates from 2018, several players are either already settled in an IPL franchise or got a gig this season. That was one of the most talented groups of players, and they were rightly rewarded for their superior talents.
We look at four big players who earned a big paycheck or were retained by the franchise during the auction.
Shubman Gill is the joint-most expensive player from that batch and earned a whopping INR 18 crores from Gujarat Titans (GT). He was retained as their top pick by the franchise and will also lead the unit.
He is an opener who can bat at different gears and is among the most consistent batters in the competition. Gill has been GT’s premium batter since their admission to the league in 2022.

Arshdeep Singh and Shubman Gill will earn the same amount in the upcoming cycle (INR 18 crores) by Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans, respectively. While PBKS didn’t retain Arshdeep, they used their Right To Match (RTM) card to get him back.
Arshdeep is a new-ball bowler who can swing the new ball and will get ample help in the powerplay in Mullanpur. Further, he has ample control over his yorkers and can be mighty effective in death overs as well, making him a go-to pacer.
Riyan Parag didn’t perform in the initial seasons, but one terrific season was enough for him to stamp his authority. He was RR’s third retention and got INR 14 crores before the auction.
He is a middle-order batter who is exceptional vs pace and also a decent player of spin. Further, he bowls useful off-spin and provides all-round value without wasting an overseas quota.
Talent galore during the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2018 batch, and Abhishek Sharma is one of those talented players who will feature in the upcoming IPL edition. After a blistering season in 2024, SRH retained him for INR 14 crores.
He is an opener who is high on intent and can take the game away from the opponent by maximising the powerplay. Further, he is also a decent left-arm finger spinner who can be threatening on helpful decks.
Note: KKR has bought Anukul Roy for INR 40 Lakhs, LSG bought Aryan Juyal for INR 30 Lakhs, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti was bought at INR 30 Lakhs by CSK during the IPL 2025 auction. They are from the same batch.
