4 Teams Likely to Start a Bidding War for Washington Sundar in IPL 2025 Auction

Washington Sundar has been in stellar all-round form of late and that has driven his stocks up heading into the IPL 2025 Auction.

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of IPL 2025 Auction as part of the franchise’s strategy to retain their core players. As a result, he will be up for grabs in the upcoming mega auction at a base price of INR 2 crores.

Sundar’s IPL journey began in 2017 when he joined Rising Pune Supergiant as a replacement for the injured Ravichandran Ashwin. His impressive performances, especially in the powerplay overs, showed his ability to contain runs and take crucial wickets.

Over the years, he has represented teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and SRH, contributing both with the ball and as a lower-order batter. In 60 IPL matches, Sundar has taken 37 wickets at an average of 35.81 and an economy rate of 7.54, along with scoring 378 runs.

His release from SRH has made him a valuable asset in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, attracting interest from several franchises looking to bolster their squads with a versatile all-rounder. Let’s take a look at four franchises that are likely to engage in a bidding war to secure Sundar’s services in the auctions.

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings have a history of valuing experienced Indian all-rounders. With the departure of key players and the need to strengthen their spin department, Washington Sundar emerges as a prime target for CSK. His ability to bowl economically in the powerplay and provide depth in batting aligns with CSK’s tactical approach.

Moreover, Sundar’s familiarity with Chennai’s conditions, being a Tamil Nadu player, adds to his suitability for the team. His recent domestic performances, including a stellar Test series against New Zealand where he took 16 wickets, have further enhanced his appeal.

2. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai Indians are likely to pursue Sundar to fill the void left by the release of their spinners. Sundar’s proficiency in bowling during the powerplay and his batting capabilities make him an ideal fit for MI’s dynamic lineup.

His inclusion would provide MI with a reliable spin option and a flexible batting resource, enhancing their balance and depth. Additionally, Sundar’s experience in high-pressure situations aligns with MI’s championship pedigree, making him a valuable asset for their quest to reclaim the IPL title.

3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, having previously employed Washington Sundar, might look to re-acquire him to strengthen their spin department and add depth to their batting lineup. RCB’s recent releases have created gaps that Sundar’s skill set can effectively fill.

His ability to bowl economically in the powerplay and contribute with the bat aligns with RCB’s strategy to build a balanced and versatile squad. Sundar’s familiarity with the team’s environment and dynamics could facilitate a seamless reintegration, providing RCB with a strategic advantage in the upcoming season.
