Phil Salt's reputation has improved massively after his breathtaking performance for KKR in the previous IPL season.
After being unsold in the IPL 2024 auction, Phil Salt was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement player for Jason Roy. The move worked brilliantly as Salt emerged as one of the best batters of KKR last season, scoring 435 runs at an average of 39.54 and a strike rate of 182 in 12 innings, including four fifties.
However, KKR still released him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction as they had several better options to retain. Hence, he will be up for grabs again during the auction, and several teams will go hard after him following his last season’s heroics.
Let’s find four teams who can eye Phil Salt during the IPL 2025 auction.
Dinesh Karthik has retired, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have left other wicketkeeper batters ahead of the auction. Further, they have released Faf du Plessis, who was also their captain in the previous cycle.
Hence, they will need a solid top-order batter, and if he can keep wickets, it would be a bonus for RCB. Salt fits perfectly, for he does both roles well and is a proven performer in the league.

Mumbai Indians (MI) are another team without a wicketkeeper batter, for they released Ishan Kishan. Hence, they will also need a top-order batter who is also a sharp gloveman, and Salt ticks those boxes well.
He will enjoy playing in Mumbai, where the ball comes nicely on the bat and shot-making is easy. Salt will be on MI’s radar in the IPL auction.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) already have Sanju Samson as a wicketkeeper batter, but they have left Jos Buttler. Further, they don’t have any Right To Match (RTM) available, so it would be hard for them to get him back.
Hence, they would need a like-for-like replacement, and Salt fits the criteria. If they don’t get Buttler, RR will definitely try Phil Salt during the auction.

While they have released Phil Salt, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will look to bid for him again. They need a wicketkeeper batter, and Salt solved this problem last year.
He knows the venue quite well and will form a lethal partnership with Sunil Narine as he did in the previous edition. KKR would want to get most of their players from the last season, and Salt will be on their radar as well.
