4 Teams That Will Target Harshal Patel at IPL 2025 Auction

Harshal Patel will be in high demand in the IPL 2025 Auction once again due to his proven track-record as a death bowler.

Harshal Patel has established himself as a formidable force in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Renowned for his adeptness in death-over bowling and his strategic use of variations. His IPL debut came in 2012 with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he showed glimpses of his potential. However, it took him almost another decade to establish himself completely.

It was the 2021 season that marked a turning point in his career. Traded back to RCB from Delhi Capitals, Patel delivered a stellar performance, equalling the record for the most wickets in a single IPL season with 32 dismissals, earning him the prestigious Purple Cap.

In the 2024 season, playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS), Patel continued his impressive form, clinching the Purple Cap once again with 24 wickets. Despite his consistent performances, PBKS made the surprising decision to release him ahead of the 2025 mega auction.

This move has positioned Patel as one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming auction, with several franchises keen to bolster their bowling line-ups by acquiring his services. Let’s take a look at the teams that could target Patel in the upcoming IPL 2025 Auction.

1. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Five-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians (MI) experienced a challenging IPL 2024 season, finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins in 14 matches. A significant factor contributing to their underwhelming performance was the inconsistency in their bowling department, particularly during the death overs.

The addition of Harshal Patel could provide the much-needed depth and experience MI requires to regain their dominance. Patel’s proficiency in delivering under pressure and his ability to execute yorkers and slower balls with precision make him an ideal candidate to partner with Jasprit Bumrah. This duo could potentially form a formidable combination, effectively curbing the flow of runs in the crucial final overs and enhancing MI’s overall bowling strategy.

2. Gujarat Titans

The Gujarat Titans (GT) made a remarkable entry into the IPL by clinching the championship in their debut season in 2022. However, their subsequent campaigns have seen a decline, with the team failing to qualify for the playoffs in the 2024 season. To address the gaps in their bowling arsenal, GT is likely to target Harshal Patel in the 2025 auction.

Patel’s extensive experience and proven track record in the IPL make him a valuable asset. His ability to adapt to different match situations and deliver consistent performances could provide the stability and edge GT needs to reclaim their winning momentum.

3. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have failed to claim the IPL trophy even though they have qualified for the Playoffs in each of the last three seasons. Their bowling unit, particularly in the death overs, has been a point of concern, often conceding runs at critical junctures.

Harshal Patel’s inclusion could be the solution to RR’s death bowling woes. His expertise in controlling the game’s pace during the final overs and his knack for taking crucial wickets could significantly enhance RR’s bowling effectiveness.

Moreover, Patel’s experience brings a strategic advantage, potentially guiding younger bowlers in the squad and contributing to a more cohesive bowling attack.

4. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have had a longstanding association with Harshal Patel, with the bowler delivering some of his most memorable performances for the franchise. In the 2021 season, Patel’s exceptional 32-wicket haul was instrumental in RCB’s campaign, earning him the Purple Cap.

Despite his departure to PBKS, RCB’s need for a reliable death-over specialist remains pertinent. With Mohammed Siraj’s exit, RCB’s bowling line-up requires reinforcement, and Patel’s proven capabilities make him a prime target. His familiarity with the team’s dynamics and his previous success with the franchise could facilitate a seamless reintegration, potentially bolstering RCB’s quest for their maiden IPL title.
