4 Teams that will target Tim David at IPL 2025 Auction

Tim David will be up for grabs during the auction, and despite his middling returns, teams will go hard after him.

Tim David is one of the biggest names in T20 franchise cricket known for his power-hitting in the middle and lower middle order. He has succeeded in every T20 league, but his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been relatively underwhelming.

While he has done well in patches, David hasn’t created the same impact he is known for or has done in other leagues. Hence, Mumbai Indians (MI) decided to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

He will be up for grabs during the auction, and despite his middling returns, teams will go hard after him. David is still among the best power hitters and will add value to any batting unit.

We look at four teams who might be interested in Tim David during the IPL 2025 auction.

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Punjab Kings (PBKS) might be among the first teams to bid for Tim David in the impending auction. PBKS released Ashutosh Sharma, their power-hitter last season, and will require someone who can perform a similar role.

David will thrive on flat decks at home, suited for stroke-makers, and bring his wealth of experience to the unit. Some Ricky Ponting factor in his acquisition might also be a possibility.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

The second-most successful side of the previous season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) let Abdul Samad go. Hence, they will require a solid pace hitter who can provide impetus to the innings in the lower order.

SRH only have one overseas slot available in the XI and might use it on a finisher after getting mediocre returns from Indian batters. David will also enjoy playing in Hyderabad, among the high-scoring venues in the competition.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Apart from his middling returns, the presence of other quality players was another reason to leave Tim David. Mumbai Indians have also released Romario Shepherd and would need someone to perform the late-hitting role.

Generally, MI prefer an overseas player for this department, and few available are close to what David offers. His previous acquisition with the franchise will also play a role since MI know his capabilities.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have a vacancy open in the lower order who can finish the innings. Dinesh Karthik, the pace-hitter, has retired, so RCB must find a lower-order batter who can perform the same role.

Tim David’s superior expertise will be aided by the short boundaries and flat pitches of Bengaluru, and he will fit perfectly. He also has a decent game vs spin, and since spinners don’t get enough help in Bengaluru, David will be a beast against any bowling type for RCB.
