Trent Boult has been a mainstay and among the finest overseas bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for several years. He was with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the previous cycle and was pivotal in their successful campaign.
Since 2022, he has 45 wickets at an average of 27.71 and a strike rate of 20.44 in 41 IPL innings. He was the leading wicket-taker among overseas pacers in the last cycle.
Since Rajasthan Royals released him, several teams will go after him during the IPL 2025 auction. He brings a wealth of quality and experience, which teams opt for in a mega auction.
We explore four teams eyeing Trent Boult during the IPL 2025 auction.
It won’t be surprising if Mumbai Indians (MI) go hard after Trent Boult in this auction. They like to have a left-arm pacer in their squad, and it will be perfect if they get someone like Boult.
Boult has previously worked with the franchise, and his new-ball expertise will be threatening in Wankhede, where the new ball always swings. His presence will allow MI to use Jasprit Bumrah in other phases, and Boult also gives decent death-over value.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have released Arshdeep Singh and might use RTM on him during the auction. However, if his price gets too high or PBKS don’t get him back due to other auction dynamics, they will have to look for alternatives, and Trent Boult will be ideal.
Like Arshdeep, Boult also has massive new-ball value and also does reasonably well in other phases. The new venue in Mullanpur aids new-ball bowlers, for they get some swing, and Boult can make early inroads in home games.
Rajasthan Royals had no choice but to leave out their premium speedster ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. That doesn’t mean RR won’t re-bid for him during the auction.
Boult has done well for the franchise, and they will need a new-ball bowler after retaining Sandeep Sharma only. He has previously worked with the franchise and fits perfectly in their plans, so RR will definitely target him if the budget allows.
Gujarat Titans (GT) have released all their pacers from the previous cycle and will require at least a couple of quality speedsters in their squad. Trent Boult will bring experience and quality, something GT have always opted for.
His new ball skillsets will be more than handy in Ahmedabad, where pacers always get help under the lights. He will solve the powerplay issues of the Titans and also bowl a few overs in the death-over phase.
