5 Teams that will Target Marco Jansen at IPL 2025 auction

Marco Jansen will be in high demand at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction owing to his improved batting ability on top of his left-arm pace bowling.

In the third T20I against India at Centurion, Marco Jansen put up a fantastic all-round performance that nearly secured victory for his team.

Jansen delivering an impressive spell of 4-0-28-1 in a high-scoring match. His disciplined bowling was followed by a remarkable batting performance, as he struck 54 runs off just 17 balls, almost guiding South Africa to victory.

Jansen was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad last season but has been released ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. His availability is now attracting attention from multiple franchises, eager to bolster their teams with a player who can contribute effectively with both bat and ball.

Jansen’s recent performance against India have boosted his prospects for the IPL 2025 auction, establishing him as a valuable asset for franchises looking for a versatile left-arm pacer who can also make an impact with the bat in the lower order.

Let’s look at the five teams that can target Marco Jansen at IPL 2025 auction.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai Indians may target Marco Jansen in the IPL auction, following his brief stint with the team in 2021. Known for his ability to bowl bouncers and swing the ball, Jansen would strengthen MI’s pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah. MI has a history of favoring left-arm quicks, having previously included players like Jansen, his brother Duan, Jason Behrendorff, Mitchell Johnson, and Mitch McClenaghan.

Beyond his bowling, Jansen’s power-hitting in the lower order could be crucial for MI, especially as the team has struggled to finish innings strongly in recent seasons. His ability to contribute with the bat would add flexibility to MI’s batting lineup, ensuring that they have a reliable option to score vital runs in the final overs.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Rajasthan Royals have retained six players for IPL 2025, including one bowler, Sandeep Sharma, and the rest are batters. With Marco Jansen available in the auction, RR will likely target him to strengthen their squad. The team previously released left-arm fast bowlers Nandre Burger and Trent Boult, so adding Jansen would bring back that type of bowler, along with a player who can also contribute significantly with the bat in the lower order.

Jansen’s ability to perform both with the ball and bat could be the missing piece for RR, especially in their lower-middle order. His all-round skills would enhance their bowling attack while adding depth to their batting, making him a valuable asset for the team.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Lucknow Super Giants have retained five players for IPL 2025, including two fast bowlers, Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan. With Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya released, LSG may target Marco Jansen in the auction. Krunal struggled with both bat and ball last season, while Stoinis was solid with the bat but lacked impact with the ball.

Jansen could play a crucial role for LSG, highlighting his all-round skills, as seen in the 3rd T20I against India in Centurion. His addition would strengthen both the bowling and batting depth. Jansen could partner with Mohsin Khan with the new ball and provide solid support in the lower order with the bat.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

RCB had fast bowlers like Mohammed Siraj, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, and Reece Topley last season, but none of them performed well, leading the team to release all of them before the auction. With only three players retained and a significant budget for the upcoming season, RCB will likely target Marco Jansen. Jansen could be a valuable addition, capable of opening the bowling and also contributing in the lower middle order with the bat.

RCB have also released Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green, both all-rounders, which makes Marco Jansen a potential solution to strengthen their squad. Another reason for their interest is their history of working with South African players, having previously had Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, Chris Morris, and even Heinrich Klaasen for a brief period.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Marco Jansen is becoming a strong contender to fill the gap left by Mitchell Starc at Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL 2025 season. After buying Starc for ₹24.75 crore last year, KKR released him ahead of the auction, leaving a void in their bowling attack, particularly in the left-arm pace category. Jansen, a younger option compared to the 34-year-old Starc, has been showing steady improvement and has the potential to grow even further.

What makes Jansen an attractive option for KKR is his ability to contribute in both bowling and batting. His all-round skills offer versatility, making him a valuable asset to the squad. With his left-arm pace and lower-order batting capabilities, Jansen could be the perfect replacement for Starc, adding depth and balance to KKR’s team.
