‘You Let Both Go’: Former India Cricketer Points Out Massive Blunder Made by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 Auction

The Royals have failed to get their hands on the IPL trophy for sometime now.

Rajasthan Royals are one of the most competitive teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and can always pose a threat to the opposition, however the title has been elusive for them for sometime now.

Ever since winning the IPL title in the inagural edition, the Royals have failed to get their hands on the silverware. They came close last year but succumbed against Sunrisers Hyderabad just one step before the Final.

Thus, in a bid to bolster their attack, RR let go off a chunk of players and roped in some promising talents and proven matchwinners at the recent IPL 2025 auction.

Despite that, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra reckons that the franchise have made a big blunder. According to Chopra, RR’s spin-bowling combination could be an issue in the upcoming IPL 2025 season.

He questioned RR’s think tank for releasing Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin and not reacquiring either at the auction.

Aakash Chopra questions Rajasthan Royals’ decision to let Chahal-Ashwin go

The Rajasthan Royals chose not to retain Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin among their six players ahead of the auction. While they made no attempt to reacquire Chahal, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) successfully outbid them to secure Ashwin for INR 9.75 crore.

Echoing on the same lines, Aakash Chopra highlighted in a video on his YouTube channel that the Rajasthan Royals parting ways with two of their most experienced spinners from the previous season had forced them to go shopping looking for spinners once again.

RR eventually roped in the Sri Lankan spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahessh Theekshana.

“They have managed the lower-order issue they had, but they had Yuzi Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin. You had arguably the best possible spin twin available with you but you let both go. You didn’t retain either of them, and that means you had to go shopping,” he said (6:40).
