Aakash Chopra says Rohit Sharma made captaincy error; thinks this bowler should have bowled 18th over

Mumbai Indians yet again started their IPL campaign with a loss. They lost to the Delhi Capitals by four wickets despite being in a winning position for the most part while defending 178 runs. However, it was the duo of Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav who batted like a dream and punished MI’s bowlers who erred in length more often in the last few overs.

But former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels MI were in the game with three overs but Rohit Sharma’s mistake cost them. According to Chopra, handing the ball to Daniel Sams in the 18th over was a mistake from the MI skipper and instead, Tymal Mills or Jasprit Bumrah should’ve bowled.

Lalit and Axar launched an assault on Sams in the 18th over, smashing him for three sixes and a four, churning out 24 runs. The big over ended the contest and DC ended up winning the game with 10 balls to spare.

“Lalit Yadav played well and after Shardul Thakur’s effective cameo, Axar Patel came in and scored at a strike rate of 200. But there were two to three important things to consider as MI made a few mistakes. Daniel Sams bowling the 18th over was a mistake. Either Tymal Mills or Bumrah should have come in. I felt Daniel Sams would bowl the 20th over. 24 runs came in that 18th over. (Jasprit) Bumrah was very expensive, which also hurt MI,” Chopra said on his Youtube Channel.

Aakash Chopra impressed with Ishan Kishan’s knock

For MI, Ishan Kishan was the star batter scoring an unbeaten 81 off 48 deliveries with 11 fours and two sixes. Aakash Chopra was impressed with him as well and felt that the southpaw has justified his huge price tag of INR 15.25 crore.

“Mumbai made a brilliant start. Ishan Kishan, this guy is on a mission. He is absolutely sensational. He justified his ₹15.25 crore price tag in the first match. He began with a few drives and then just went berserk with fours and sixes. He played the role of an opener as well as finisher,” Aakash Chopra added.
