He managed to turn things around after a string of poor scores.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stalwart Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a sheer testament to his batting prowess by slamming a fiery knock of 97 in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).
During a match between Maharashtra and Services, the CSK skipper was unfortunate to miss his century by only 3 runs but his innings was a much-needed welcome after his recent poor string of scores.
Ruturaj Gaikwad faced a tough run in the SMAT so far, managing scores of 1, 19, 4, and 2 in his previous four outings. However, he turned things around earlier today with a spectacular knock of 97 off just 48 balls.

The 27-year-old delivered a sensational performance, smashing six fours and eight sixes during his innings while maintaining an impressive strike rate of 202. This innings, despite his recent struggles in the SMAT, is hardly surprising given his proven acumen. In the two Ranji Trophy matches earlier this year, he amassed 231 runs at an average of 77, showcasing his form.
On the other hand, Maharashtra needs to secure a win in this match as they currently sit in fifth place on the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy points table. Out of their five games, they have won two and lost three. For Ruturaj, this match and the tournament serves as an ideal preparation for IPL 2025.
CSK and their new captain have something to prove after missing out on the playoffs and finishing fifth last season (IPL 2024). Ruturaj took over the captaincy from MS Dhoni only last year and while his IPL performances have been exceptional, Gaikwad has often failed to receive the recognition he deserves.
