Coach reacts to RCB player’s ‘unacceptable’ behaviour to leave field mid-spell over a fight with the captain during WI vs ENG ODI

The incident happened during the fourth over of England's innings.

During the recent WI vs ENG 3rd ODI, a moment of confusion transpired in the middle when a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowler decided to leave the field midway after getting into a spat with Windies skipper Shai Hope regarding field placement.

Alzarri Joseph, who was bought by RCB ahead of the IPL 2024 auction for a steep amount of INR 11.50 crore, was left unhappy and could be seen remonstrating with Hope.

Following the incident, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has broken his silence on the matter and labelled Alzarri Joseph’s behaviour as “unacceptable”.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Sammy said, “Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field. We will be friends…but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that.”

What actually happened with Alzarri Joseph?

The incident happened during the fourth over of England’s innings. On the fourth delivery, Alzarri Joseph dismissed Jordan Cox, caught behind but instead of celebrating with his teammates, he quietly returned to his mark. Without prior notice, Joseph then left the field at the end of the over, leaving West Indies with only ten fielders to start the fifth over.

Joseph came back at the start of the sixth over but did not resume bowling until the 12th. He bowled two more overs before leaving the field again after two misfields off his deliveries resulted in England scoring two extra runs through overthrows. Later, he returned to bowl two more overs in the middle and completed his remaining three overs towards the end of the innings.

Joseph concluded the match with bowling figures of 2 for 45 from his full quota of 10 overs, having taken the wickets of Cox and Dan Mousley.
