He did not mince his words at all.
Talented India batter Prithvi Shaw has been going through a rough patch for some time now but he hit a new low after going unsold in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Earlier, the Delhi Capitals (DC) had decided against retaining him.
Apart from his form, Shaw’s fitness has been a big point of debate and he was recently dropped from the Mumbai team as well in the Ranji Trophy.
Echoing on the same lines, DC co-owner Parth Jindal opened up on the decision and did not mince his words. He felt that Shaw needed this “jolt” after he failed to live up to the expectations.
Jindal emphasized the immense pressure Prithvi Shaw encountered early in his career, as he was often compared to iconic players like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara, which might have impacted his development.
Jindal said while speaking to India Today, “When all your life you grow up hearing that you are the special open, the most talented, and is the only other batsman in the world other than Sachin and Kohli to own an MRF bat, that tells you a lot.”
The Managing Director of JSW Cements added, Somebody called him Lara, somebody called him Sachin, or the next big thing…so grew up in that environment. Everyone from Mumbai cricket was talking about him. Mumbai has given us Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, and now they were talking about him. So, this is that one jolt Prithvi needed. Till now he was on a fat IPL contract and playing across formats for Mumbai and was starting for Delhi.”
He also urged Shaw to work on his fitness and discipline and bounce back stronger from this low.
