While MI were silent most of the auction given their low purse value, they did manage to get some quality deals.
Having finished last in the previous season, Mumbai Indians aimed to turn the tide with a strategy focused on striking the right balance between a mix of their experienced leaders and emerging talents.
MI used up a substantial part of their auction budget (INR 75 crores) by retaining their top five stars – Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav & Tilak Varma and entered the IPL 2025 auction with an INR 45 crore remaining purse.
While they were silent most of the auction given their low purse value, they did manage to get some quality deals. They pulled off one of the biggest heists in the IPL 2025 auction by acquiring English all-rounder Will Jacks for INR 5.25 crore. The MI management also made some more quality overseas additions in Allah Ghazanfar (INR 4.8 crore), Mitchell Santner (INR 2 crore), Reece Topley (75lacs), and Lizaad Williams (75 lacs).
New Zealand pacer Trent Boult was MI’s most-expensive signing at INR 12.5 crore followed by Indian pacer Deepak Chahar at INR 9.25 crore.

Hardik Pandya had a difficult time after taking over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma last season. While his own performance wasn’t that great, it didn’t help when he got booed by home fans at Wankhede. To make things worse, MI finished at the bottom of the table.
Given the fact that MI management sees Hardik as the franchise’s future, they have decided to retain him as the leader for the side for the next season. While undoubtedly it’s easier said than done, it remains to be seen if Hardik can brush aside the horrors of the past season and turn around MI’s fortunes in the upcoming season of IPL 2025.
