Glenn Maxwell Likely to Get Strong Interest in IPL 2025 Auction from Former Champions Despite Depleting Stocks

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is poised to attract significant attention in the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, particularly from former champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Despite a dip in form during the IPL 2024 season, Maxwell’s unique skill set continues to make him a valuable asset for franchises seeking to bolster their squads.

CSK has previously demonstrated a keen interest in acquiring Maxwell’s services. During the IPL 2021 auction, the franchise engaged in an intense bidding war with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Maxwell, highlighting their desire to include him in their lineup.

Ultimately, RCB secured Maxwell for ₹14.25 crore, leading CSK to opt for England’s Moeen Ali, who offers a similar skill set.

Glenn Maxwell’s Performance and Recent Developments

In the IPL 2024 season, Maxwell’s performance was below expectations, managing only 52 runs and six wickets for RCB. This decline in form contributed to RCB’s decision not to retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Maxwell has expressed understanding of the franchise’s decision but still remains optimistic about his future in the league.

CSK has a history of valuing experienced and versatile players who can perform under pressure. With the release of several key players ahead of the 2025 auction, CSK is in search of quality replacements to strengthen their squad.

Maxwell’s aggressive batting style and ability to contribute with off-spin bowling align with CSK’s approach for picking players with multiple skill sets. His experience in high-pressure situations and versatility make him a suitable candidate to fill the void left by departing players.

The Australian’s proficiency in the middle order could provide stability and firepower, complementing CSK’s existing lineup. Moreover, his off-spin will prove to be very handy in Chepauk, which is known to produce turning pitches.

Despite a challenging IPL 2024 season, Glenn Maxwell’s unique abilities and experience make him a compelling option for franchises like CSK. They are very likely to rekindle their interest in him and they might acquire him at a cheaper price also owing to Maxwell’s below par form of late.
