India and Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan hit the jackpot on Saturday (February 12), becoming the most pick in the at the IPL 2022 Auction in Bangalore.

Kishan, who lost the race for retention to other candidates in the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp, went back to his old franchise after they went all out in the bidding far for him.

MI found themselves in the midst of an elongated tussle for their player with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but eventually won the bid with an astonishing sum of INR 15.25 crores. It also made him the fourth-most expensive pick in the history of IPL.

With Kishan’s end-prize once again bringing the auction dynamics into focus, here’s looking other most expensive purchases made by the ten IPL franchises at the mega auction.

Deepak Chahar – INR 14 Crore

Indian pacer Deepak became a surprise entrant to this list after being bought for a massive sum of INR 14 crores at the IPL 2022 Auction. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) medium-pacer went back to his old franchise after an extended tussle among multiple franchises.

With a base prize of INR 2 crores, Deepak, the promising new-ball bowler and handy lower-order bat, was always expected to be a dark horse at the auction. But his end prize left everyone shell shocked, as he nearly touched the most expensive Ishan Kishan’s final bid with MI.

Shreyas Iyer – INR 12.25 Crore

Next up is Indian middle-order bat Shreyas Iyer, who now enjoys a hefty contract of INR 12.25 crores with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Parting ways with Delhi Capitals (DC) at the end of IPL 2021, the 27-year-old was always going to be a hot property at the auction because of his captaincy credentials.

With multiple IPL sides eyeing their next captain for the season ahead, Iyer was always expected to fetch a huge sum. The middle-order bat was the one at the helm when DC made the finals of the IPL 2020 and also a year before when they broke their seven-year-long playoffs jinx.

Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Nicholas Pooran, Shardul Thakur – INR 10.75 Crore

For the fourth slot, there was a four-way tie at a sum of INR 10.75 crores, featuring Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran and Indian pacers Harshal Patel and Shardul Thakur. While Hasaranga will stay with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who also bought back their Purple Cap holder Patel, Pooran and Thakur found their new homes with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC), respectively.
