The deadline for IPL franchises to finalise their retentions ends on Tuesday (November 30) at 12 PM IST. Each of the retentions will be officially confirmed in a show over host broadcaster Star Sports Network from IST 5 PM.

The franchises can retain a maximum of four players who were part of their squad for the IPL 2021, with a cap of two in the overseas category. If a side retain players, they’ll lose specific amounts from their total purse of INR 90 crores ahead of the mega auction.

The rule for IPL 2022 in this regard is as follows:-

4 retentions: Player 1 – 16 crores, Player 2 – 12 crores, Player 3 – 8 crores, Player 4 – 6 crores

3 retentions: Player 1 – 15 crores, Player 2 – 11 crores, Player 3 – 7 crores

2 retentions: Player 1 – 14 crores, Player 2 – 10 crores

1 retention: Player – 14 crores

Apart from the cap on overseas cricketers, there is a limit of upto three players that a franchise can retain in the Indian category. The uncapped Indian players – for whom the retention will cost a side only INR 4 crores – can’t be more than two in number.

The two new franchises based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad will also be carrying a purse of INR 90 crores to the auction, expected to be held soon. These two sides will have the opportunity to make some prominent signings before the auction from a pool of cricketers outside those that the existing franchises keep with them.
