IPL 2022: Strongest KKR Playing XI – Full Kolkata Knight Riders Squad, Player List And Captain After Mega Auction
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) flourished and made a name for themselves when Gautam Gambhir played for them. The veteran captained the Knights to wins in 2012 and 2014 and made them a powerhouse. But since he left in 2018, the Knights have strained a bit.
They named Dinesh Karthik as their captain in 2018, but he failed to make much of an impact in two and half seasons. Eoin Morgan was terrific as a skipper, but his form with the bat was shambolic, to say the least.
Prior to the mega auction, the Knights retained Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, who both have been with the team for over five years. They also retained young sensation Venkatesh Iyer and off-spinner Varun Chakravarthy.

Back in the 2021 IPL, Venkatesh Iyer gave the Knights a lot of solidity as an opener. Iyer and Alex Hales can form a devastating opening pair for the Men in Gold and Purple.
Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have been fulcrums of the Knights for many seasons and need to lead from the front. The onus will also be on Varun Chakravarthy to keep a check on run-scoring. Pat Cummins is back with the Knights and he needs to be on top of his game.
Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Captain for IPL 2022
Before the IPL 2022 mega auction, the Knights released Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik. It was evident that KKR would look for a captain in the auction. They shelled out INR 12.25 crores for Shreyas Iyer, who led the Delhi Capitals for three seasons. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans were engaged in a bidding war. But in the end, the Knights secured his services.
