Shedge is heralded for hitting a triple century at the age of 14

In a recent development, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday announced the signing of Suryansh Shedge as a replacement for Jaydev Unadkat for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) season. Unadkat sustained a shoulder injury during training on the same day as that of LSG’s regular captain KL Rahul hurt his right leg while chasing a ball in the outfield in the second over against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1.

Unadkat fell in a freak accident last week, tripping on a wire in his follow-through during a net session. The 31-year-old left training heavily strapped. The left-armer is one of five bowlers named in the squad to take on Australia, while Jasprit Bumrah (back) was out of consideration after undergoing surgery in New Zealand earlier in the year.

"Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday brought Suryansh Shedge on board as a replacement for the injured Jaydev Unadkat for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023," an IPL statement read.

Suryansh joins LSG for INR 20 Lakh. Shedge is best known for hammering 326 off 137 balls—the fastest triple century for Gundecha Education Academy (Kandivli) against SPSS Mumbadevi Niketan (Borivli) at Shivaji Park seven years ago.

The 20-year-old Shedge was included in Mumbai’s 17-member Ranji squad last season after scoring 184 runs in eight games and claiming 12 wickets in the U-25 State A Trophy.

Krunal Pandya and Co, on the other hand, are on the brink of qualifying for the IPL 2023 playoffs. The franchise are currently placed third with seven wins in 13 games. LSG, who currently have 15 points, can reach a maximum of 17 points for a top-two finish, if they beat the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last group-stage match on Saturday, May 20.
