23 Indians Register at the Maximum Base Price

For the top base price of INR 2 crore, 23 Indian players have registered, including big names like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who were not retained by their franchises. Other prominent players in this top tier include Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Shami.

Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, T Natarajan, Devdutt Padikkal, Krunal Pandya, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav.

Interestingly, Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan have registered at a lower base price of INR 75 lakh this time. Sarfaraz went unsold last time and a lower base price gives him a better shot at getting picked. Meanwhile, Shaw’s stocks have fallen off a cliff and he has lowered his base price to get a bid.

An Italian Player in the IPL?

Adding an unexpected twist to the auction pool, Thomas Draca from Italy has registered for the IPL 2025 auction. Draca, who recently featured in the Global T20 Canada and was picked by MI Emirates for the ILT20 season, represents a fresh addition from an Associate Nation.

While he is a part of the extended list, it remains to be seen if he will be named in the trimmed list that franchises submit before the auction.

James Anderson in, Ben Stokes Out

One of the most eye-catching entries is veteran England bowler James Anderson, who has registered for the IPL auction at a base price of INR 1.25 crore. Anderson, who hasn’t played T20 cricket since 2014 and has never been part of the IPL, recently retired from international cricket and joined England’s coaching staff. His decision to throw his hat into the IPL ring has caught quite a few by surprise.

On the flip side, Ben Stokes, another high-profile English player, is missing from the list. After opting out of the IPL 2024 season to manage his fitness, Stokes has chosen to skip the 2025 season as well, likely due to a hamstring injury that sidelined him earlier this year. It should be noted that with this decision, Stokes also rules himself out of contention for the IPL 2026 auction according to the latest IPL rules.

In an amendment earlier this year, IPL had clarified that any player who skips the mega auction cannot be eligible to register for the mini auction. This was done to stop players from trying to gain the inflated money from mini auctions by skipping the mega auction.
