The IPL 2025 season will feature 74 matches, the same as the last three seasons.
The IPL has announced the schedule for the next three seasons. IPL 2025 will run from March 14 to May 25, IPL 2026 from March 15 to May 31, and IPL 2027 from March 14 to May 30.
According to ESPNcricinfo, these dates are currently referred to as “windows” but are likely to become the final schedule.
The IPL 2025 season will feature 74 matches, the same as the last three seasons. However, this is 10 fewer matches than the 84 initially planned when the media rights for the 2023-27 cycle were sold. The IPL had originally proposed a gradual increase in matches, with 84 games in 2025 and 2026, and up to 94 matches in 2027.
Franchises have received a significant boost as overseas players from most major cricketing nations have been cleared by their boards to participate in the IPL for the next three seasons. This ensures teams can field top international talent, keeping the league highly competitive.
However, as has been the case since 2008, players from Pakistan remain excluded due to ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan.

The release of a three-year schedule is a strategic advantage for franchises. Knowing the dates helps teams refine their squad plans and approach the IPL Mega Auction on November 24-25, 2024, with more clarity.
The confirmation of overseas player availability further strengthens their ability to plan, negotiate contracts, and manage player workloads, especially given the busy cricket calendar.
The IPL’s timing from mid-March to late May fits neatly ahead of ICC events like the World Test Championship Final and major bilateral series.
This scheduling ensures top international players can participate without clashing with national commitments, addressing a common issue faced by franchise leagues globally.
