For the franchise as well, the decision makes sense, who are yet to taste IPL victory
Former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma’s future has been under speculation ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction.
The rumours initially started when MI removed Rohit from captaincy and handed it over to Hardik Pandya, after securing the premier all-rounder for Gujarat Titans for a big money signing of INR 15 crore ahead of the last season (IPL 2024).
Echoing on the same lines, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has earmarked an IPL team that can benefit from signing Rohit.
Kaif opined that in case Rohit is not retained by MI and he enters the auction, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) should definitely make a play to secure the star batter’s services.
Speaking on Star Sports, Kaif said, “RCB should take this chance. Somehow convince Rohit and make him the captain. He might not score that much as a batter, he scores forties and fifties, but I believe Rohit knows how to build a playing eleven very well”.
Kaif also emphasised that Rohit Sharma should play the IPL as a captain only, since he has a fine track-record as a leader, which includes this year’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign in June that ended the Indian team’s 11-year major ICC trophy drought.
For RCB as well, the decision makes sense, who are yet to taste IPL victory. Rohit, on the other hand, has led MI to a record five IPL titles and his pedigree can come in handy for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
