KKR had a complete team, with specialists for each spot, and did their job precisely in almost every game to win their first trophy in ten years.
It has been a year and a half for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), for they have been in the limelight since the start of the year. Firstly, the acquisition of Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of India, as mentor hogged the headline before a record bid for Mitchell Starc during the IPL 2024 auction.
They formed a solid squad and came with all the guns blazing during IPL 2024, for they played like a well-oiled machine and were nearly flawless. They defeated almost every team coming their way and went on to win their third title.
Now they have added another feather to their cap as Indian Sports Honours have awarded Kolkata Knight Riders the Club of the Year honours in their latest award show. They were joint-winners with Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women, who won the Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this year, and Puneri Paltan, who won the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) last season.
Indeed, it is a deserved award for the Knight Riders, given what they achieved on the field in the toughest T20 league. They had a complete team, with specialists for each spot, and did their job precisely in almost every game to win their first trophy in ten years.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, Kolkata Knight Riders were among the two teams to retain as many as six players along with Rajasthan Royals (RR). It shows how solid a core they had and backed them to come good again for another cycle.
They would be massively disappointed to let their captain and other vital members before the mega auction. KKR made some tough decisions, for they were tempted to leave out a few big names for several reasons.

Hence, they will need to fill a few crucial slots during the auction, especially in the middle order. They won’t have the services of Gautam Gambhir this time, who played a crucial role in helping them play a certain brand of cricket.
However, they still have Chandrakant Pandit, who will be their head coach again. The think tank has enough experience and will look to prepare a competitive unit again.
