KKR pacer raises stocks for Test debut during Australia Tour with Timely Fifty in Ranji Trophy Match

His contributions came during the game between Delhi and Assam.

Ahead of the upcoming highly-anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy, a Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star pacer gave a testament to his sheer prowess with a stellar performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

KKR’s Harshit Rana, who stands a chance of earning his maiden Test cap after receiving a call-up for the five-match Test series against the Aussies, raised his stocks by putting up an all-round display with the ball as well as the bat.

During the game between Delhi and Assam in the Ranji Trophy, Rana picked up a five-wicket haul on Day 1 of the contest, finishing with figures of 5/80.

Harshit then followed up his performance with the ball by showcasing his batting skills as well. The 22-year-old, who already holds a century and a fifty in first-class cricket, reached his second half-century with flair. Batting at number 8, he contributed a vital 59 runs off 78 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 75.64 and hitting four boundaries along with three sixes.

Harshit Rana silences critics with his Ranji performance

This outstanding performance couldn’t have been more timely, coinciding perfectly with Harshit’s first call-up to India’s Test squad. He was selected for India’s expansive 18-member team for the five-match Test series against Australia—a choice that initially surprised some, given his limited exposure to red-ball cricket. However, the young fast bowler quickly silenced doubters, showcasing his skill and proving his selection was well-deserved.

Among the 18-member lineup, the BCCI included three uncapped Test players – Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Cricket fans are already familiar with the talents of Nitish Kumar and Harshit Rana, particularly in T20 formats. Sharing the dressing room with top players in such a prestigious series is a career-defining opportunity for these young talents.
