Gambhir has revitalized his career.
The Indian management recently announced the squad for the upcoming four-match T20I series against South Africa. Notably, a Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) sensation managed to earn his maiden call-up for the Proteas tour.
Explosive middle-order batter and dynamic all-rounder Ramandeep Singh had a breakout IPL 2024 season where he slammed 125 runs in just 62 balls at a blistering strike rate of 201.61.
Following this impressive performance, Ramandeep Singh earned a spot in the India A team for the recent Emerging Asia Cup. The 27-year-old gained widespread attention after pulling off a stunning one-handed diving catch against Pakistan A. During the semi-final against Afghanistan, the all-rounder showcased his six-hitting prowess with a quickfire 64 off 34 balls, emerging as India’s standout performer in their 20-run defeat.
He was subsequently named in the 15-man squad for the next South Africa series.

Given Ramandeep’s recent climb up the ladder, the Punjab cricketer praised former KKR mentor and current India coach Gautam Gambhir for his imperative backing.
Ramandeep told Indian Express, “Gautam sir told me I would be batting at No. 7 and No. 8 and advised me to prepare accordingly.”
He added, “During an intra-squad match at KKR, my side needed six runs off two balls to win, and I clinched the match with a six. Gautam sir told me, ‘You are my favourite cricketer in this team, and I will back you throughout the tournament. You should never play with fear’.”
Gambhir’s backing has revitalized Ramandeep’s career. Although Salt and Narine frequently set an aggressive tone for KKR during the powerplay, Ramandeep, typically coming in at No. 7 or 8, has delivered vital finishing contributions and played a crucial role in helping KKR win their third IPL title earlier this year.
