The contest culminated with KKR securing Iyer’s services for a staggering ₹23.75 crore, making him the third-most expensive acquisition in this year’s auction.
The bidding commenced with KKR placing an initial bid of ₹2 crore for Iyer. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) soon entered the fray, driving the price up to ₹7.75 crore. KKR managed to outbid LSG, but the competition intensified as RCB joined the auction battle.
Both franchises vied aggressively for the 29-year-old all-rounder, with RCB pushing the bid to ₹23.5 crore. Ultimately, KKR’s decisive bid of ₹23.75 crore secured Iyer’s return to the franchise.
Venkatesh Iyer has been a pivotal figure for KKR in previous seasons. In the 2024 IPL season, he amassed 370 runs in 14 matches, averaging 46.25. He also played match-winning knocks in the Playoffs and the final, leading to KKR’s third title.
Despite his significant contributions, KKR had earlier opted not to retain him, leading to his availability in the 2025 auction.
