Let’s try to pin down three big players LSG might part ways with before the mega auction.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were among the most consistent teams in their first two seasons, qualifying for playoffs on both occasions. However, the last season didn’t go according to expectations, for they could only win seven games and ended in the seventh position on the points table.
As they prepare for the next season, LSG will have to leave out a few quality players before the mega auction. They had a strong squad, so the decision will be hard, but they have no option but to make some bold calls.
Let’s try to pin down three big players LSG might part ways with before the mega auction.
As surprising as it may sound, LSG might release their captain KL Rahul ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Despite playing at his preferred position, Rahul couldn’t perform according to expectations, and his strike rate was below par in every edition.
There was also a heated argument between him and LSG owners during IPL 2024, and reports about sour relations between the two have been aplenty. LSG are unlikely to spend a retention amount on him.

Marcus Stoinis was one of the three players LSG signed before the auction when they came to the tournament in 2022. Stoinis also did reasonably well, contributing with both bat and ball.
However, his auction value might not be close to the retention slabs, so LSG might not use a retention slot for him. If they want, LSG can use RTM or re-bid for him in the auction if his price remains reasonable.
Krunal Pandya was the vice-captain of Lucknow Super Giants and captained the team in Rahul’s absence. However, his performances weren’t convincing enough to warrant a retention, especially with the current retention slab.
If he comes into the auction, his price won’t be as high as the retention amount because plenty of options will be available in his kind of role in the mega auction. So, LSG can get him back at a lower price later if they feel the need.
