This was the highest ever T20 total in the history of the sport.
Earlier today, in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), Baroda shattered all records by registering the highest-ever total in T20 cricket. Baroda put up an incredible total of 349/5 in their 20 overs during a match against Sikkim, breaking Zimbabwe’s recently set record for the highest team score in a T20 innings. Zimbabwe had posted 344/4 against Gambia in October, but their record lasted just over a month.
Baroda also shattered the record for the most sixes in a T20 innings, smashing 37 maximums to surpass Zimbabwe’s 27 sixes in the same game against Gambia. Notably, this was the first-ever 300+ total in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
A chief architect of this Baroda carnage was a 51-ball unbeaten 134-run knock from Bhanu Pania. Coming in to bat at No.3, Pania slammed at a blistering strike rate of 263, where he notched up 5 fours and 15 sixes to blast past his way to his century in a stunning fashion.
Following the stellar knock, Pania extended his gratitude to a Mumbai Indians (MI) star for his crucial contribution. The 28-year-old has now revealed that MI skipper Hardik Pandya, who is also a part of the Baroda team, gave the domestic star his own bat.
“Hardik Pandya gifted a bat to me and from that only I scored 134 runs against Sikkim today,” Pania told Insidesport.
Barring Pania, Abhimanyu Singh (53), Shivalik Sharma (55), and Vishnu Solanki (50) also hit quickfire half-centuries to propel Baroda to the massive total and eventually won the contest comfortably by a big margin of 263 runs.
