Former RCB Batter Set to Join Gujarat Titans as Batting Mentor: Reports

The player has also played for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

A former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper batter is set to join 2022 champions Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the next season. The player has also played for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to a report by Times of India, Parthiv Patel will be in Gujarat Titans’ dressing room for the upcoming edition of the IPL. He will join them as a batting mentor, a position vacant since Gary Kirsten’s exit.

Kirsten was GT’s mentor and batting coach for the first three seasons since their admission to the league and did a fine job of making the team a solid force. However, he joined the Pakistan Cricket Team following the 2024 season as their head coach across white-ball formats.

Parthiv has played for six teams in the richest T20 league, scoring 2848 runs at an average of 22.60 and a strike rate of 120.78 in 137 innings. He also has 13 fifties, including the best of 81.

Parthvi Patel’s previous work experience with Mumbai Indians

Following his retirement in December 2020, Parthiv Patel, who has won two titles with MI, was part of the Mumbai-based franchise as their talent scout ahead of IPL 2021. Later, he was also the batting coach of MI Emirates, a sister franchise of Mumbai Indians, in the International League T20 (ILT20), a UAE-based T20 competition.

He has been following domestic cricket closely and has been part of the commentary team in India’s ongoing Test carnival. His addition to the Titans will help them get the best domestic talent in the auction and help them get better with precise coaching.

He has vast experience featuring in the league and understands IPL dynamics well. His first role in the team might be to help GT assemble a competitive squad.

Gujarat Titans endured a tough last season after having two dream editions in 2022 and 2023, failing to qualify for playoffs for the first time. They had a few loopholes in the squad, which GT will hope to fill with the help of their latest acquisition, Parthiv Patel.
