His recent move has raised questions regarding his future at the franchise.

In a recent turn of events ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction, new drama has unfolded surrounding a Punjab Kings (PBKS) player.

Shashank Singh, who was unceremoniously bought by the franchise in the IPL 2024 auction for INR 20 lakhs, has now hinted that he might part ways ahead of the upcoming season.

The PBKS star has removed the franchise name from his bio on Instagram. His latest bio reads “Professional Cricketer” whereas previously, he had clearly mentioned Punjab Kings.

While there were earlier reports that suggested Shashank might be retained, his recent move has definitely raised questions regarding his future at the Punjab-based outfit.

Shashank Singh enjoyed a breakout campaign in the last IPL season

Despite the minor hiccup in the auction where PBKS initially rejected buying Shashank Singh and then later went onboard with the decision, the 32-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign.

Shashank showcased his batting prowess batting in the middle order by picking up 354 runs in 14 games at a stellar average of 44.25 and an impressive strike rate of 164.65. He achieved his highest score in the tournament with a powerful knock of 68 runs against the eventual IPL 2024 winners Kolkata Knight Riders.

Speaking earlier about his retention by Punjab Kings, Shashank mentioned that even if he isn’t retained, he is optimistic about other opportunities, as there are many franchises in the IPL, and his main goal is to keep playing.

Under the BCCI’s revised IPL 2025 retention rules, Shashank can be retained as an uncapped player, with each franchise allowed to keep two uncapped players for a price of ₹4 crore per player.
