The Rajasthan Royals finished a disappointing ninth in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The overhaul at Rajasthan Royals (RR) shows no signs of slowing down. After the unexpected exits of head coach Rahul Dravid and CEO Jake Lush McCrum, the franchise has now parted ways with two members of its support staff. At the same time, uncertainty over skipper Sanju Samson’s availability for next season continues.
The Royals endured a lacklustre campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, finishing a disappointing ninth on the points table with 10 points, including four wins and two no-result games.
According to Cricbuzz, the Rajasthan Royals have ended contracts with spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule and fielding coach Dishant Yagnik. The report also claimed that Varun Ghosh, the strength and conditioning coach, may be the next to depart.
Bahutule had joined the inaugural season champions last year after a stint at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Yagnik served the franchise for a long time, first as a player before transitioning into the role of fielding coach.

With Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who has been RR’s Director of Cricket since 2021, expected to succeed Rahul Dravid as head coach, the changes hint at being part of a wider shake-up. Albeit no official announcement on the new coach has been made yet. Trevor Penney, who has previously worked with the Royals alongside Sangakkara, is likely to return.
However, the former India batting coach, Vikram Rathour, who joined the franchise last year, continues to remain part of the setup, while bowling coach Shane Bond retained his position.
The situation surrounding Sanju Samson remains unsolved. The wicketkeeper-batter reportedly sought trade deals with multiple franchises, but no agreement has materialised so far. It remains to be seen whether the Indian international will be released for the auction or retained. Notably, in the last season, Samson only played nine games due to a side strain that he sustained in the early part of the season.
