Rajasthan Royals (RR) star suffers stress reaction; ruled out of upcoming WTC series

He has been withdrawn from the squad and will fly home for further assessment.

A Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer has suffered a massive setback due to an injury, which has ruled him out of the current ODI and next World Test Championship series. He didn’t play the first game of the series and will return after an untimely blow.

Nandre Burger, the left-arm pacer, has been out of the ongoing Ireland series and will also miss the impending two-match Test series against Bangladesh later in the month due to a lumbar stress reaction. He has been withdrawn from the squad and will fly home for further assessment.

“Proteas Men’s fast bowler Nandre Burger has been ruled out of the remainder of the One-Day International (ODI) series against Ireland and the upcoming Test tour of Bangladesh due to a lumbar stress reaction. The 29-year-old experienced discomfort in his lower back, and subsequent scans revealed the injury. He will return home and undergo further assessments. His replacement for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh will be announced in due course.” read the official statement.

He was part of the squad but didn’t feature in playing XI during the first ODI between Ireland and South Africa in Abu Dhabi. South Africa would have given him a chance at some stage in the series, but he won’t take any part in the series anymore.

South Africa look to seal the series in the second ODI

South Africa put on a comprehensive show in the first ODI against Ireland, winning the game by a whopping 139-run margin. Batting first, they scored 271/9 in the first innings – thanks to terrific knocks by Ryan Rickelton (91) and Tristan Stubbs (79).

Bjorn Fortuin (28) and Lungi Ngidi (20) also chipped in with crucial runs. Later, the South African bowlers put on a collective show to bundle Ireland to a mere 132 in the second innings.
